Life after cancer is often very different than what it was before a diagnosis. The worries of recurrence, the physical changes to one’s body, and the emotional ups and downs all impact the search for a new “normal.” It is common to experience symptoms of depression and grieving during cancer treatment and after. In fact, many women experience their emotions as being more intense after treatment ends as there are no longer the concrete aspects of treatment to feel like they need to get through such as surgery or chemotherapy. After active treatment, many women feel pressure to see cancer as being over or behind them by their loved ones which makes the process of acceptance harder.

It is common to experience depression, panic, anxiety, sexual side effects, anger, low self esteem, distorted body image, and fear of rejection by others.

Therapy is a safe and supportive place to work through the trauma of diagnosis and treatment and to find ways to integrate the past into the future.
